VBSF Supporter, Team "Still Think'n", takes Second Place in the Pirate's Cove Tuna Roundup!!

A nearly last minute hookup and the landing of a 106 pound Big Eye, sealed the deal and put the team from Virginia Beach of Bob Dubell, Colin "Otter" Ottersten, Brian Steadman, Mike Winner, and
Don Malkowski, firmly in the money. "Still Think'n" walked away with Top Honors in the Outboard Division, Second Place Overall, and Second Place Top Angler.

Conditions could not have been better for the 2 day tournament. On day one, they ran to check out an eddy north of the fleet. It did produce a few gaffer dolphin, but not the tuna they were hunting for. Heading to Plan B,  they  ran to the 700 line and found tuna flying through the air and boiling on the water. Boats were casting to 50 plus pound Yellowfin. Truly an awesome event to witness. This was an all trolling tourney and there baits proved pleasing to the tuna. They  landed 4 of these aggressive fish off of blue and white Get Reel Lure Tiki Bars, blue and white seawitches and blue and white Islanders and headed to weigh-in. There top 3 tuna gave them a 10th place standing of 148 pounds.

With some questionable weather approaching for Day 2,  they  made the shorter run right to where  they  left off. Set lines and worked the 715 down to the 680.  They  managed a Yellowfin that would better there total weight by a few pounds. They knew they needed a Big Eye to get in the top 3. They changed the spread up a little and continued working the area. Finally with only a couple hours before lines out, the right short went screaming. Brian Steadman was on the rod and they harness him in. After a 35 minute, rod-bending battle, the fish surfaces and the real task was at hand. This is the one that would set them at the top.
Don was on the  leader, Mike sunk one gaff in him and then Otter came over the top and put the second gaff in. The fish came over the gunnels and they knew they were in the money.

They continue fishing after a short celebration until lines out and then make the run in. At the scales and they see 106.00 flash on the digital scale. With a total weight of 211 pounds they're second to only one boat.

Final Results saw "First Crack" take top honors and fellow VBSF Supporter "Sea Wolf" round out the standings with 205 pounds. This was a great placing for Team "Still Think'n". They were fishing against the majority of the Oregon Inlet Fleet, some of the best tuna fisherman on the East Coast, and the "Yellow Boat" missing top prize by only 4.5 pounds. Goes to show, if you want it...you can get it.
