Long Bay Pointe Boating Resort, VA Beach

On January 30th
Carolyn Brown
of Virginia Beach set a new Virginia state record with this 63 lb
Striped Bass.
Carolyn met Claude Bain
(Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament Director) at the Long Bay Pointe
scales Saturday morning and he certified them to be dead accurate....
It’s Official!
The crew was fishing on the Fishateer, owner Linda Stenke,
Captain Larry Mattocks, Carolyn and Debbie Hurst aboard.
They were fishing off Corolla light in 39 degree water, about 50 ' deep.
Story has it: they were pulling a double rig, one parachute and a 9"
white storm lure. Both fish hit at the same time; a 25 pounder hit the
parachute rig, the monster hit the storm lure. After finally getting
both fish to the boat (NO NET) the captain got on the swim platform and
lipped both fish into the boat.
The fish measured in at 50 inches in length and 33 1/4 inches in girth.
The prior
state record of 61-pounds, 12-ounces was caught near Buoy 42 in the
Chesapeake Bay by James R. Muse of Richmond on December 7, 1996.
